Terms of Use

Last updated: June 2026

Important — template notice: This is a starting-point Terms of Use for the HangPals demo. An app where adults meet strangers in person is a higher-risk category. Have a qualified attorney review and adapt this (and the Privacy Policy) for your jurisdiction before you launch. This text is not legal advice.

Welcome to HangPals. These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and HangPals ("HangPals," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use HangPals.

1. You must be 18+

HangPals is strictly for adults 18 years or older. By using it you represent that you are at least 18. We ask for date of birth at signup, may require identity verification, and will suspend or remove any account we believe belongs to a minor.

2. Your account

You're responsible for your account and for keeping your login secure. Give accurate information, don't impersonate anyone, and don't share or transfer your account. One person, one account.

3. Acceptable use — what you may not do

HangPals connects real people for real-life hangouts, so safety and legality come first. You agree that you will not, and will not use HangPals, the chats, or any feature to:

Breaking these rules can get your content removed and your account suspended or terminated, and — where the law requires or permits — reported to the authorities.

4. Content, monitoring, and no expectation of privacy from safety review

Messages and chats on HangPals are not end-to-end encrypted, and HangPals is not a private or anonymous messaging service. To keep the community safe and to comply with the law, we may access, review, and remove content (including hangs, profiles, and messages) — for example, when it is reported, when our systems flag it, or when we reasonably believe review is needed to prevent harm or to comply with a legal obligation. You should not expect that content you post or send is private from this kind of safety and legal review. We are not, however, obligated to monitor all content, and we do not pre-screen everything.

5. Meeting people in person — your decision, your risk

HangPals helps you make plans, but you decide who you meet, when, and where. We do not conduct criminal background checks on members, and a Verified badge confirms identity, not character. Meeting new people carries inherent risk, and you assume that risk. Always meet in a public place the first time, tell someone where you're going (use Share-plan), trust your instincts, and use the in-app safety tools. In an emergency, call your local emergency number (911 in the US).

6. Moderation, warnings, and termination

We may review reports and remove content that breaks these Terms. We may issue warnings; accumulating multiple warnings (currently three — "three strikes") results in suspension of your account. We may also suspend or permanently remove accounts immediately and without prior warning for serious violations or genuine threats to the safety of the community. You can delete your account at any time in Settings.

7. Reporting, law enforcement, and legal process

We cooperate with law enforcement and will respond to valid legal process (such as subpoenas, court orders, warrants, and preservation or emergency-disclosure requests) in accordance with applicable law. We may also disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to prevent imminent harm, investigate violations of these Terms, or comply with the law. As required by US federal law, we report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

8. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant HangPals a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, and distribute your content within the service so we can operate it. You're responsible for what you share, and you confirm you have the rights to share it.

9. Disclaimers

HangPals is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, and we are not responsible for the conduct of any user, on or off the platform.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, HangPals and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss or harm arising from your use of the service, your interactions with other users, or anything that happens at an in-person meeting. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold HangPals harmless from claims and expenses arising out of your use of the service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or the law.

12. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which HangPals is established (to be specified by counsel), without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Your lawyer should set the governing law, venue, and any arbitration/class-action-waiver terms appropriate for your business.

13. Changes

We may update these Terms; we'll post the new date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app. Continuing to use HangPals after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
