Account details you give us (name, email or phone number, date of birth, photos, vibes, home area), the hangs and messages you create, and basic device/usage data needed to run the service. If you verify your identity, that check is handled by a third-party verification provider.
HangPals shows approximate, neighborhood-level locations only. We deliberately fuzz the map so your exact home or meeting point is never shown to other users. You control your visibility (pals, pals-of-pals, or nearby).
To run the app: show you relevant hangs and people nearby, deliver messages and notifications, keep the community safe, and prevent fraud and abuse. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not run third-party advertising on it.
Other users see your profile, vibes, approximate area, and the hangs you share with them based on your visibility settings. Reports you file go to our moderation team, not to the person you reported.
Messages and chats on HangPals are not end-to-end encrypted. To keep people safe and to comply with the law, we may access, review, and store content (including messages) — for example when it is reported, flagged by our systems, or when we reasonably believe review is needed to prevent harm or meet a legal obligation. We cooperate with valid law-enforcement requests and legal process, and we report apparent child sexual abuse material to NCMEC as required by US law. We don't pre-screen everything, and we limit access to what's needed for safety, support, and legal compliance.
If you add a safety contact or use Share-plan / SOS, we use that information only to help you share your plans or get help — never for marketing.
You can edit your profile, change visibility, or delete your account (and its hangs, pals, and messages) at any time in Settings. To request a copy or deletion of your data, contact us.
We keep your data while your account is active and remove it after deletion, except where we must retain limited records for safety or legal reasons. We use industry-standard safeguards, though no system is perfectly secure.
HangPals is 18+. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and will delete such accounts.
